Are minions still a thing? Well they just had a large supporting role in a box office smash movie and on top of that have one of the top mobile games on google play and the app store. So… I would say unfortunately they are still a major part of today’s culture. What is Minion Rush? A mobile game with an engaging, multi layered story and innovative gameplay? Or a quick skin on an existing property meant as corporate cash grab that signifies American decadence, culminating in crippling the minds of youth and in turn the degradation of the United States as a nation? Read on to find out!
Minion rush might feel very familiar… it takes many of the gameplay elements of temple rush, slaps a new paint on it and adds microtransactions. Just as reminder of the core elements of gameplay: your character is always running moving between three lanes trying to collect prizes (in this case bananas) and avoid obstacles, the further you get the better you do and things get progressively harder as you progress through levels. In Minion Rush, there are little things you can upgrade on your minions and admittedly the graphics and feel of the game is quite polished. The target market for this game is mostly likely young children who have never heard of temple run and this port will definitely keep them happy and occupied for hours (just make sure to keep their grubby fingers away from your credit card).
If you really like minions, then check out this game. The antics and animations will put a smile on your face. However, most well-adjusted sane adults should take a pass as their is nothing new here, just a glossy coat of paint on something very familiar.
