So the Crabs are going to war! Against reptiles… for some reason…. the cut scene was kind of boring so I zoned out… but I’m sure the crabs are justified in their eternal struggle. I really do mean eternal struggle. This game just keeps going, you keep tapping sending wave after wave of kamikaze crustaceans and the game will keep putting big heads for them to run into.
The game will feel familiar, the premise is simple. You click to attack with crabs, you collect upgrades, you level up your attacks, you fight increasingly difficult enemies, you feel obligated to purchase micro transactions so you can keep the cycle repeating forever and fill a lack of accomplishment in your life… But all in all despite this tired formula the graphics are fairly solid and the variety of images is top notch. There are even a few twists in the game play that keep things interesting. There is no real opportunity to pause the game so the crabs are really at war with your attention. Watch out!
Crab War has some engaging content but there is no real strategy or reason to keep playing other than the hollow satisfaction of seeing “upgraded” crabs. You can get quite far on the free to play model but there is a slow build up to when microtransactions are the only way to overcome many hurdles that seem impassable. Crab war could really benefit from some riskier gameplay ideas, multiplayer element or better story. As it stands now its shiny distraction and not much more.
